Much has been made of the contributions of doctors and other health care workers during the Covid crisis, and very rightly so. But for some reason, the only time manufacturing workers seem to get much attention is when bad news happens, as with the coronavirus outbreaks among workers at meatpacking plants a few months ago. That’s a grave injustice, given that these essential workers have shown up day in and day out since the whole thing began, keeping our groceries and other essentials flowing almost without interruption.

Dan Johnston is CEO at WorkStep, which was founded in 2017 to help industrial companies screen, hire, and retain their frontline workforce. WorkStep has helped more than 400,000 industrial workers earn over $126 million in jobs placed on the platform, and recently conducted a study surveyed more than 600 industrial workers across the country to gain insight into how those on the front lines view the impact of COVID-19 on industry, as well as their employers’ response. Dan spoke recently with Plant Services chief editor Thomas Wilk about some of those survey findings.

WorkStep, a company that helps large industrial employers source, hire, and retain frontline workers, today released a survey that finds that the majority of industrial workers (70%) feel their safety and their family’s financial security are in conflict through the COVID-19 pandemic.
