Founded in 2017, WorkStep is a software company dedicated to helping organizations engage and retain their frontline workforce.
The idea was born from firsthand experience. When Portland native and co-founder Dan Johnston managed a third-party logistics warehouse, he saw the high cost and limited impact of relying on temporary labor agencies. Transitioning to a direct-hire model improved both costs and retention, but workforce challenges persisted.
Determined to create a better solution, Dan and co-founder Justin (CTO) combined their experience in logistics and technology to build WorkStep—a platform designed to bridge the gap between frontline workers and employers.
